The LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT digital comics keep surprising fans with the development of interesting and twisted plots.  Though some of the art in the series has not impressed me, the writing on the other hand has been capable of keeping me hooked in the series for twenty issues (when my average is just about ten issues before I call it quits if I don’t like it).  The new story arc starts with issue #19 and involves a violent reaction from Maxie Zeus inspired by a mysterious voice only he seems to see.  As it appears, Maximillian has been part of a new brand of therapy that might have lead to this deadly reaction, and he’s not the only one…

LODK: ISSUE #19

Joker seems to be hearing the very same voices and you would not believe what they seem to tell him to do… I don’t know what to make of it, after all it is quite a serious and permanent turn on the character, but we will have to wait till next week to find out.  I hope this does not become a trend in comics too…

harley1200The guys at IGN have uploaded a match from the new game INJUSTICE:  GODS AMONG US to show the versatility of this new Mortal Kombat style fight game.  The two contenders:  HARLEY QUINN vs. SALOMON GRUNDY.  The quality of the video is good, and the moves are quite impressive.  I personally don’t like Harley’s new look, but she can really pack a punch ( They should make alternate skins for her with her old costume.  That sure will bring many more Harley lovers to play this game I think.

Click below to see the match with commentary.

Surfing on the cyberwaves of Deviantart, I stumbled into this nice piece of art and felt compelled to share it with ya’ll. Blame it on my Joker-centric OCD!!

TITLE:  THE SMILE IN THE MIRROR

ARTISTETHAN GRAHAM PEACOCK (aka Elfsar)

DESCRIPTION: (By the artist)

This was a commission by a psychology major who was very particular about what they wanted. This version of the Joker is taking a bit from both the comics and the Dark Knight film. I have been working on this off and on for about a year and it represents an interesting point in time with my art where I am starting to blend traditional methods with digital. Although the final print would be considered digital, a lot of the drawing process was completed using traditional methods and then working further on the piece digitally using Adobe Photoshop. So it was difficult to put this in a particular category. I would like to call it “Tradigital’ if there was such a thing.
Mixed Media -Colored Conte, Tria Markers, Pantone pens, pencil crayon and then worked further with Adobe Photoshop CS5

Another update from the ARKHAM CITY UNHINGED series.  Just when these series could not surprise me, a new twist in the plot kept me hooked.  Only one thing bothered me, there is no obvious tie between this story arc and the previous “Operation: “Kill Joker”.  Just how did Joker end in this mess?  Is the clue on the game?  I definitely have to finish playing ARKHAM CITY UNHINGED.  In the meantime, enjoy this little preview of an otherwise great story arc.

BATMAN:  ARKHAM CITY UNHINGED #29:  The streets of Arkham City are empty, silent. What will happen when Batman learns everyone’s flocked to the courthouse to witness a very peculiar court case…presided over by none other than Harvey Dent, and a jury of some of the greatest villains in Gotham history?!

So yeah…

It appears that all the buzz about the new Harley downloadable content for the ARKHAM CITY game were based on misinformation.  I had posted before that the DLC would be available by the end of April, and April is gone..with no DLC on the horizon. Sorry for that, guys, but Rocksteady has updated the information on the downloadable content.  The DLC content will now be available on MAY 29, 2012 according to new tweets from the design studio.

Here is what WB says:

The Harley Quinn’s Revenge mission sends players back into Arkham City to face their final challenge as they interchange between playing as both Batman and Robin. Gamers must utilize each of the characters’ unique combat and investigative skills to uncover Harley’s vengeful plan and shut the gates on the urban mega-prison forever. In addition to experiencing a new storyline, fans can explore new environments and face-off against Harley’s all new gang of thugs.

Let’s hope this one is the real thing this time.

In the meantime, enjoy these…

Newsarama shared a page from the new digital comic AME-COMI GIRLS.  Personally I have the figure of Harley Quinn from the series (for pictures please visit the Joker’s Museum, Harley Quinn Action Figure wing) and have to say that I find the new anime-inspired versions quite refreshing but from there to developing a whole new series based on these characters?  Come on, as if we did not have enough DC universe already on the shelves.  I think the reception to this new series will be somewhat lukewarm unless the writing is SUPERB…and I don’t know if DC can accomplish that here.  We’ll see.  I promise to buy the first issue and give you guys my opinion in the meantime…enjoy the preview page

amecomibatgirl-full_02

While DC’s familiar female characters are clearly wearing a whole new wardrobe in the new Ame-Comi Girls comics, they’re also being marketed with a whole new approach.

Beginning in May, Ame-Comi Girls, based on the popular manga-inspired collectibles DC has been selling the past few years, will be released as a weekly series every Monday. That release schedule breaks the traditional release schedule of American superhero comics, which normally come out monthly on Wednesdays.

Gray, who’s co-writing the comics with his frequent collaborator, Jimmy Palmiotti, is excited by the prospect of being involved in a digital-first comic that comes out on different days. “Why not? I keep saying how important the digital landscape is to reaching a wider, and hopefully younger, audience that both embraces the new format and is unencumbered by a ‘been there seen that’ familiarity with the comic industry,” he said. “Eventually everyone of every age is going to have access to apps and the importance of giving comics a strong cultural hold on the digital market seems imperative to the growth of the industry.”

In an announcement made by CBR, DC is to release new Batman title ONLY on digital format soon.  This is the whole report and maybe possible future cover of one of the issues?

Following the release of the digital Smallville: Season 11 series today, USA Today reports that DC Comics has added two more titles to its upcoming slate of digital-first releases.

Batman–which will feature tales of the Dark Knight by Ben Templesmith, Steve Niles, B. Clay Moore, Nicola Scott, Joshua Hale Fialkov, Damon Lindelof and Jeff Lemire, among others–will come out on Thursdays.

They [DC] also announced the creative pairings for the Batman digital comics: “BATMAN digital, launching in June, will take place outside of DC Comics – The New 52 continuity and feature a series of stand-alone stories by various creators that chronicle different cases handled by The Dark Knight. Confirmed creative teams include Damon Lindelof and Jeff Lemire; Jonathan Larsen and JG Jones; Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott; Ales Kot and Ryan Sook; B. Clay Moore and Ben Templesmith; Steve Niles and Trevor Hairsine; Joe Harris and Jason Masters; TJ Fixman and Christopher Mitten; Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman; Joshua Hale Fialkov and Phil Hester; David Tischman and Chris Sprouse; and many more!”

The other series will be “AME-COMI GIRLS, launching in May, and  based on the best-selling product line from DC Collectibles that brings the distinct Japanese influence of anime and manga to DC Comics’ female heroines and their foes. In the new series, the heroines must unite to stop an invasion by the female Braniac, who is aided by a group of ‘bad girl’ super villains. Initially, there will be five individual character arcs with multiple chapters, leading up to united, Ame-Comi girl series. All stories are written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray with Wonder Woman art by Amanda Conner and Tony Akins, Batgirl art by Sanford Greene, Duela Dent art by Ted Naifeh, Power Girl art by Mike Bowden and Supergirl art by Santi Casas.”

So the weekly line-up of digital-first series from DC looks like this:

  • Monday: Ame-Comi Girls
  • Tuesday: Batman: Arkham Unhinged
  • Wednesday: The Beyond comics
  • Thursday: Batman
  • Friday: Smallville: Season 11
