Hello friends from hi and lo…

First, I have to reveal that YES! EARTH-3 JOKER MAKES A CAMEO in the new animated movie!!!!!  HURRAY!

But the sad part is that is only on the first 5 minutes of the movie…..more on that one paragraph down.

I just wanted to comment on the new DCU movie  JUSTICE LEAGUE:  CRISIS IN TWO EARTHS, which I just finished watching and I have to give it my thumbs up.  I have to admit that though I am not a biggie on the Justice League, I have a heart for the Crime Sindicate.  Call it my psychosis…I like villains, especially when they are well written, and these guys …well. This guys are written extremely well.

It starts with Earth-3 Luthor and Jester (yes, that is the Joker’s name in that other earth) attacking on the Crime syndicate to retrieve a special piece of equipment.   Unfortunately, they are discovered and intercepted and it’s up to Jester to sacrifice his life in order for Luthor to survive and take the mysterious electronic thingy to our universe. Oh, and love that Jester…so different and at the same time reminiscent of our beloved psycho clown…

"Oh, it doesn’t matter I’m down to my last joke" Jester says to a abusive Power Girl that has him pinned against a wall.  He then pulls a bomb from his bag of tricks and activates it "…and this one’s gonna kill you!"

BOOOM!   No more Powergirl and lilke a dozen bad guys with him.  That is what I call a hero….

I was just a little dissapointed on the decision of taking Jester’s costume literally and having him dress up like one of those medieval court jesters…After being used to my clown wear his purple tux, demoting his costume to a clown outfit was a little…ehem…of a shock.  But hey…it’s jus animation…right?

Well, anyways.  It’s funny how that Luthor gets to meet the Justice League here on our earth, and even then it is good noticing that though the opposite of the real Luthor, this one still retains a little  of his mischievousness when he decides to hide the piece of equipment on the JLA headquarters without telling anybody. Go Luthor!

I’m happy they went on to explain what the Crime syndicate is in detail…a conglomerate of superpower mafiosi and each with his own set of superpowered henchmen.  The main boses… Ultraman, Owlman, Superwoman, Green lantern, and the Flash grant their most trusted allies with superpowers (though its not explained how)
. And who would have thought of seeing president Deathstroke?

The battle goes on, and you can notice how limited have been the efforts of the late Earth-3 JLA to fight these supercriminals when not even the government is willing to lend a hand.  They are more willing to give up and don’t interfere so the syndicate will not target them. Luthor gathers the JLA in one of the old hideouts (the Jester’s and we realize that Harley is a little pet monkey the clown kept for company.  Was is made mock our Harley, or just someones idea of a joke?   Whatever reason…it brought a smile to my face.  That is until Luthor reveals to the monkey that the Jester is not coming back.  Poor little monkey….) Then the plan to hit the syndicate hard are set in motion.

I don’t want to go an spoil the whole movie, but I really…and I mean REALLY liked Owlman.  I mean…we all know our Batman is psychotic, but how can you make this evil Batman really scary?  Have him come to the conclusion that humankind is a cancer and he is the cure, but destroying the humans on his earth is not enough.  For Owlman the real cure is to destroy every human that ever existed in every universe ever….and no one is going to stop him.  He completely lacks empathy for his fellow human beings…even he’s socalled associates. Talking about the mother of all evil schemes….

YES! DESTROY THE MULTIVERSE!!!

And here is where the little thingy Luthor was hiding comes to play, because it was the fuse to the bomb Owlman created for his evil purposes. Owlman is as ingenious as our Batman and he knows that the only place where Luthor would have hidden the fuse safely was in our earth and sends Superwoman (a very mean ass form of Wonder Woman) to search and retrieve the piece.

As the plot continues, its obvious that Owlman’s plans are only his, for no one but his lover (Superwoman) knows about the plan to destroy the multiverse and she just wants to see the world burn… Realizing that what Owlman is going to do is going to destroy just everbody that ever existed, the Syndicate have no option than to unite with the Justice League to stop him, but Owlman has escape to Earth Prime (the first earth) and taken the bomb with him to detonate it there.

THey are able to use one fo the Flash to vibrate fast enough and create a portal connecting the Owl’s interdimensional transducer.  Batman and Owlman fight and the winner is….well, go and watch the movie, folks.  I’m not gonna tell you all

This movie has it all.  Intrigue, fun, and a few references to Crisis of the Infinite Earths (for the geeks, because I missed them)

I just have to say this.  The animation is not bad…not at all, and the animators where not afraid of showing their prowess in the fighting arena. Two thumbs up in my court.  The fight scenes between the heroes and the villains, do not lack blood (when is  needed, of course.  No gore here) and the choreography of the fights was very well designed, making use of a lot of shots that would require an extreme domain of perspective and forshortening.  Oh, and for being traditional animation….they have proven that this media is not dead and can still produce a quality product.

The DVD is loaded with a bunch of goodies and has a preview of the upcoming RED HOOD DVD movied due this Summer and a small featurette on the Specter.  My recommendation is for those that can afford it, watch it in Blu-ray, but I’m sure that the regular format will be as impressive. Just get a copy and enjoy it.  I think that it’s good animationa and good entertainment.  Do not expect grand themes…after all it is an animated movie intended for younger audiences, but I found it quite entertaining. Hey it kept me watching for the whole hour and a havlf, and that is not easy….

Go…what are you wating for…GO AND GET THE VIDEO!!!!
