219e0e8f76c44732556765f51fb7606eWell, the movie might be done with the chase scenes and some other interesting little surprise scenes that have flooded the INSTAGRAM and YouTube pages but as director DAVID AYER revealed in a recent communication that in spite of the great chase scenes through Toronto streets, this is just a GLIMPSE of what is to come.  Without any further details, he announced that the movie will go dark now as it continues production and that the fans should be alerted that the movie’s surprises have not been spoiled…I just wonder what could be more wonderful than Joker’s ride and more horrendous that that ugly bat trying to vandalize the  Clown’s car, but I trust Mr. Ayer.

David Ayer ‏@DavidAyerMovies

Well we survived the streets. Time to go dark now. Remember, only the tiniest glimpse has been exposed. Our surprises are intact.

And… I personally believe these supposed “leaks” are nothing more than free publicity to increase the fans anticipation for the film..

NOTE:  Still…I am not so sure about the Joker’s look.  I just hope that this is a killer plot with a killer performance by an ACADEMY AWARD WINNER that is going to allow the fans look over those hideous tattoos…YUCK!

I might not be happy with the Joker’s look, but that does not mean I am not excited about the movie as a whole (I mean, it does have an incredible cast in it and it is full of villains. I can’t ask for anything else).  So here are a few new videos that have been popping out from the net of Joker, his car, the Batmobile and Harley Quinn.

Hey Jokerholics,
I know I’m kind of late posting this since you all probably saw the Jared Leto tease of Joker’s new look, but I am going to use this time to just give you all my personal  and humble opinion about the whole issue.   In reality it is very simple…

First take a look at it:

219e0e8f76c44732556765f51fb7606e

1.  Idea of a Joker with tattoos…a very promising concept indeed

  • Yes, I mean, really.  Why can’t we imagine a Clown Prince of Crime who does like tattoos? We all know the Joker is crazy, but he can also be a trendy dude, can’t he? He probably LIKES tattoos.  Let’s remember what Frank Miller tried to do in his ill fated collaboration with Jim Lee Batman and the Robin the Boy Wonder.  His Joker was not only a romantic psycho in the series, but he wore a rather large red dragon tattoo on his back for Christ sake!  Talking about making a statement Mr. Miller!  Yes the whole series was an epic failure for the most part (except for Jim Lee’s magnificent art), but it was a sincere try to reinvent a Clown that has so many different incarnations already.
  • Also you have to consider, after Heath Ledger’s memorable portrayal  of the Joker in the DARK KNIGHT movie, there is not much room to outdo that performance or refresh the character.  The Nolanverse Joker was the most realistic form of the Clown Prince of Crime to date, but if you wanted a more classical view of the Joker, there was always the Jack Nicholson’s Clown portrait  of BATMAN 1989, and if you wanted something even campier… well, there was the Batman 1966 Joker portrayed by Cesar Romero. Reinventing the Joker after these performances was becoming harder and harder with any new incarnation.  New venues had to be explored and why not a tattooed Joker for once.  It looked like a nice thought experiment.

2.  The nature of Suicide Squad Joker’s tattoos:

  • That is kills the dream for me.  Yes, a tattooed Joker would have been a nice refreshing concept, but the selection of the tattoos for this Clown Prince of Crime is just an overkill…and Black and white?  Come on, Joker is a colorful villain, and if he could only select one color it would not be black…it would be purple (I can’t tell, but maybe the tattoos are made in dark purple ink?).  OK. Let’s analyze those tattoos for a moment:
    • Large Jester skull and playing cards:  really, what kind of meaning does this have for Joker.  I’ve been trying to put myself in the state of mind of the Clown in an effort to find a logic for this tattoo. It is so cliché. Skull Jesters and playing cards are all over the place, all over the internet, in decals, in bumper stickers… it is just a common motif and we all know that Joker is not a common guy.  His psyche is totally warped, abnormal, disturbed, twisted.  The last thing he wants is to be like the common folk.  So why would he select such a common image like that?  Beats me.  I personally don’t think he would wear a large skull jester in his chest, he will find something more shocking and disturbing.
    • HAHAHA tattoos:  Actually this is more like a Joker thing, something that Joker would probably wear in his skin, but the pattern is so uniform, and absorbing.  I think that Joker would have gone for something a little more unusual ( the pattern on his shoulder was promising).  His laughter is chilling and scary, not just a happy laughter and if he would decide to wear it, I think he would like to do something unusual about it.
    • The Big smile on his forearm:  OK, this to me was a total waste of piece of skin art, until I saw a little unknown photomanipulation of Joker using this tattoo to exaggerate his rather unremarkable grin (remember, this Joker does not have Ledger’s scarred grin.  Actually he seems to have a normal mouth with a lipstick enhanced smile).  Neat concept idea for a use of the tattoo, but I still see that that it misses the mark as a whole.  To me it looks more like a tribute to Miller’s Joker from DARK KNIGHT RETURNS graphic novel (if you have not seen it, there is a panel in that graphic novel with a similar smile when Joker finally recovers his purpose after seeing Batman on TV). To me that is almost totally useless tattoo.
    • “Damaged” tattoo on the forhead:  OK, so this is like the most ridiculous choice of a tattoo for the Clown Prince of Crime.  If maybe you could make all the other tattoos “kind of work” this one would just throws any possibilities out the window.  What the hell does Joker need to advertise that he has a messed up head?  It makes absolutely no sense. Even the placing on the forehead makes it an ever poorer choice  for a tattoo.  Please Mr. David Ayer and Suicide Squad editors, delete this tattoo in postproduction.  It is just annoying, like that large hairy mole on the face of your best friend.  You can’t stop staring at it, and miss every thing else the character is trying to do.

3.  The Joker’s grill

  • What the hell is the reasoning behind this.  I don’t think anybody knows, but instead of just being a trendy piece of mouth jewelry, this looks like Joker has not brushed his teeth in weeks.  Weird, and I personally am not too fond of it.  BUT…I love the explanation that has been running around that he’s using the grill because he’s covering the teeth that Batman had knocked out in previous fights.  It’s a possibility and makes the choice of the grill, kind of reasonable, less shocking  but not any less attractive.

4.  MY CONCLUSION

  • This Joker conception is faulty in may aspects of his looks.  It is to me a hybrid between being cartoony (electric green hair anyone, pinky ring?), ridiculous and realistic.  It will probably take ALL OF Jared Leto’s Oscar winning skills to make me bypass all the issues I have with this portrait.    He better make this Joker more memorable than Ledger’s Clown if he wants this new interpretation to really work in the big screen (but then I know that also depends on how well the screenwriters wrote him in the plot.  In the meantime, I will just sit and wait until I see more Joker action and the movie, and hope that DC makes me regret what I am about to say, but…

I LOVE JOKER, BUT REALLY… I DON’T THINK THIS IS GONNA WORK.

There are a bunch of new Joker and Harley Quinn figures coming out this year and like any good capitalistic society none of them are really cheap so it is important to be careful when choosing what to collect and why… especially when we are no Donald Trump nor Bill Gates but hard working people painfully saving our dollars for the little pleasures of life…

Usually I have no problem selecting what I want to collect as I am mainly a JOKER collector but when it comes to Harley Quinn, I am very picky with what I can and will buy and right now I have a problem maybe the fans out there can help me decide…. So please look below and give me an idea of what Harley Quinn statue I should select for collection…they are all SO BEAUTIFUL, but I’m no millionaire.

I want the Sideshow Arkham Asylum Premium Quality Joker figure  being releases April/July 2016: $450

and that would be great, but there are a few of beautiful Harley Quinn figures coming out this year as well:

YAMATO’s DC FANTASY HARLEY QUINN FIGURE BY ARTIST LUIS ROYO to be released June 2015: $250

FantFigureGalleryDCHQ00a

AND ENTERTAINMENT EARTH IS SELLING A VARIANT OF THIS STATUE to be released June 2015: $250

FantFigureGalleryDCHQEE

There is also the DC GOTHAM GARAGE HARLEY QUINN STATUE to be released in November 2015: $300

GothamGarageHQ

And of course the BOMBSHELL JOKER AND HARLEY QUINN FIGURE to be released on December 2015:  $250

I’ll love your input on this matter… Thank you friends!

Jaredleto&Joker.jpgSo with  filming starting just in a few months, Jared Leto has finally cut his luscious mane and bushy beard to start getting in character for his Joker portrayal in the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD movie.

The actor has said that this portrayal of the Joker is going to be different than the ones done before by both Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger.

“Jared wants to make sure his Joker is not only something the fans will love, but he doesn’t want to step on the toes of Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger,” according to a purported inside source for Hollywood Life.

“He wants to make the character completely his own. … He knows that this role may be his most difficult ever, but he is confident that he will make his version of the Joker the best. This Joker will be more cerebral and comedic than what we have seen before, nobody should expect a copycat version. It’s going to be awesome!”

Here are some nice videos of Jared’s new look.

RafRobledoJrJKR.jpgI sometimes like to do my own statues and sculptures when I want certain figure or pose that I like.  I know that companies are not there for me, so I go and take a lump of Sculpey and just start creating my figures. I love learning new things about customizing and sculpting figures and I find this guy to be if not the best, pretty darn close.  His name is RAFAEL ROBLEDO Jr. and he has a YouTube channel that showcases his work HERE.  He does ALL kinds of customizations and some are pretty neat.

Then I found he customized a Joker sculpture, and decided I had to share that with Jokerdom.  Here are the video series for your entertainment.

Jaredleto&Joker.jpg   A great report by Joey Paur for GEEK TYRANT hints to the preparations actor Jared Leto is doing to help him get in the role of the Clown Prince of Crime on the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD movie.  Here is a transcript of the article:

We’re all really curious to see what director David Ayer‘s and Jared Leto’s version of the Joker is going to be like in Suicide Squad. This will be the first time that we see the Crown Prince of Crime up on the big screen since the character was played by Heath Ledger. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill, but I think Leto is going to be great in the role.

During an interview with Billboard, Leto discussed the Joker and how he’s preparing to take on the part. It’s interesting to note that he’s bulking up for the part.

“I’m trying to gain a lot of weight. It means I have to eat every couple of hours — and I’m terrible at eating a lot.”

I don’t think any of the actors who have played the Joker gained weight for the role, but Leto is a pretty skinny guy, so that might be the reason why. I don’t think we’re going to be seeing a juiced up Joker or anything. He went on to discuss what attracted him to the role:

“The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character — that’s what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right? [He’s] this beautiful disaster of a character — what a big challenge.”

I love his description of the character as a “beautiful disaster.” The Joker is one of my favorite villains of all time, and I really do hope that they get him right in Suicide Squad. Ayer is a very gritty and hardcore director, so I imagine that that is going to be the kind of Joker that we see in the movie.  I wonder how different this version will be than Ledger’s Joker. Will he be a darker and crazier version? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. What do you hope to see from the character in this movie? The rest of the Suicide Squad cast includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg. The movie hits theaters on August 5th, 2016.
